Would you like to know more about an elephant-God?
Every country has a cliché and, perhaps, the India´s one is the elephant.
India is a country situated in the South of the Asian continent. It is the second more populated country in the world (after China). According to the Constitution, the Indian Republic is a socialist and secular State. The Station Master is the President. The President and the Vicepresident are both chosen by a special Polling Station; the First Minister is named by the President.
In India there are more than 100 different languages and 844 dialects. There are 17 principal languages, like Hindí, Panjabí, Tamil... English is also spoken in this country. In the 19th century, the British Empire won the battle against the Mongolian Army. On the 15th August of 1947, India gained independence. The high class of Indian society still speaks English, like a mark of the social position. But only a 3% of the citizens really speak English.
At the end of August and at the beginning of September there is an important festival: Ganesh Chaturthi. It is devoted to Ganesh, the famous elephant-God. This festival is celebrated everywhere in India, but with a special enthusiasm in Maharashtra. Altars are put up, fireworks are thrown, mud idols are put in the river or in the sea... There is a strange belief: the nights of this festival you have to avoid to look at the moon, because it is said that this will bring you bad luck.
So, if you are looking for a special experience, you are in luck. You only have to visit India and don´t forget not to look at the sky!!
