Occupying a continent of 7.6 million square kilometres, Australia is the six largest country in the world.
About 91% of Australia is covered by vegetation and more than 80% of Australians live in 100 kilometres at the coast.
The culture and customs include traditions, legends, myths and folklore.
Over 200 different languages and dialects are spoken, being English the official one due to the fact that it was a British colony.
It is a democratic society with a competitive economy. The population is 20 million.
26 January 1788 Captain Arthur Philip lands at Port Jackson, now Sidney. Soon, they start marking this day as a small commemorative holiday day with dinners, informal celebrations, bonfires, etc.
By 1818, the thirtieth anniversary of the settlement, the country begins to prosper and Australia Day evolves into a major national celebration, despite the problems with Aboriginal people who reject this day as their national day because commemore the Australian continent colonization.
Nowadays, about 8 million people attend Australia Day ceremonies on 26th January.
