National Multicultural Festival, Canberra

Canberra is the capital city of Australia and with a population of over 332,000, is Australia's largest island city. Canberra is the site of Parliament House, the High COUl1 of Australia and numerous government departments and agencies.
European exploration and settlement started in the Canberra area as early as the 1820s. White settlement of the area probably dates from 1824, when a homestead or station was built on what is now the Acton peninsula by stockmen employed by 10shua 10hn Moore. He formally purchased the site in 1826, and named the property Canberry.

You should think that for 2 weeks in February, Canberra becomes a hive of festivities, with a myriad of cultural groups showcasing their traditions through music, dance and theatre. The colours, sounds, tastes and cultural richness are also presented through
exhibitions, craft, films, concerts and very exciting gourmet food.
Though you may have to get tickets for certain events, performances, films and exhibitions, there are many other great events that are totally free. The website
www.multiculturalfestivaI.com.au, gives a good write up on each event.

Every year since 1996, Canberra holds the National Multicultural Festival in February. This Festival is widely acc1aimed as one of the best festivals that not only recognises, but actively celebrates the rich, diverse cultural reality that is Australia.
The Festival draws large numbers of interstate as well as international visitors each year. It is a good idea to plan your holidays a little in advance, so as not to miss out on accommodation, tickets or flights.
Don't forget to take your camera, you would want to capture all the exotic and brilliant display of ethnic costumes, colour and festivities.
